REVISED FORMAT FOR 2020
"A Celebration Of The Automobile" To Benefit UVA Cancer Center
Because of the Coronavirus outbreak and ensuing Governors issuance of guidelines for public events, the Virginia Festival of the Wheel Advisory Board has revised the format for the 2020 event to comply with the Governor’s guidelines and to assure the health and safety of all event participants and attendees. All of the Governors guidelines for social distancing and wearing of protective gear will be enforced at the event. These guidelines will be posted on our website. Everything is predicated on reaching Phase 3 of the Governors plans for re-opening Virginia by September 1.
Our goal remains to support the UVa Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund. In addition, we also wish to pay tribute to the courageous first responders and health care workers who have served us so well during this unprecedented crisis.
Because of the need for social separation, the sale of spectator tickets will be limited to the first 600 people who purchase them online. Please note that Cancer Survivors, First Responders in Uniform and Frontline Healthcare workers will receive free admission.
We have changed the format of the event in an effort to balance conformance with the guidelines while providing a great experience for all participants as follows:
Registration for all Participants will re-open on our website, vafestivalofthewheel.com on June 1. We will contact all prior registrants to determine if they wish to participate in the revised format event. All information for registering will be posted on our website.
The Virginia Festival of the Wheel Car Concours will be held on Saturday, September 5 from 9 a.m.to 12 noon. at the Boars Head Resort. The Boars Head Resort will again have their “Boars Head Smokehouse” onsite serving their Barbecue and Brisket. Because of the Guidelines, the cars entered will have greater physical separation. Also because of the Guidelines, we have developed a unique way for judging the cars. Since we will not be able to safely physically judge the Cars at the event, we have created a “virtual” judging process online which will include photos of every car entered with a brief description of each.
Starting on Saturday, August 23, all visitors to the Virginia Festival of the Wheel website will be able to review all the photos of the cars entered and vote for the car of their choice for each class by making a small donation to the VFOTW which will go to the UVa Cancer Center. This will allow everyone to engage in the 2020 Virginia Festival of the Wheel even if they cannot attend as a spectator. Trophies for all class winners will be awarded at the Virginia Festival of the Wheel Concours on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Following the Concours on Saturday September 5th, we will again have the Jefferson Trail Road Tour open to the first 60 Concours Participants who register. This year the all new Road Tour promises to be more scenic, rich in history and a Covid-19 safe experience. The presidential police motorcycle escort is only fitting since the route meanders through President Thomas Jefferson’s and President James Monroe’s estates. The 2020 Road Tour will also pay tribute to frontline medical and first responders dealing with the Corona virus. Beginning at the Boars Head Resort, the Road Tour will travel through the grounds of UVA and pass by the UVA Hospital to pay tribute to all the dedicated health care professionals. The Road Tour will continue through the City of Charlottesville and pass by Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital to pay tribute to their dedicated health care professionals. The Tour will then proceed through Shadwell, Milton, Highland, Morven and throughout rural and historic Albemarle County.
The Road Tour route will include signage and a written description of historic sites along the way.
In the event that the Governor has not opened Virginia to Phase 3 by September 1, the “virtual car judging” of all the cars entered and the Jefferson Trail Road Tour will proceed but the Concours event will be cancelled.
We appreciate the interest and support of the Virginia Festival of the Wheel during this pandemic and wish everyone a safe and healthy journey.
